Show Results 2009

Show Herd of the Year 2009:

We were pleased to be awarded the title of UK Show Herd of the Year 2009 but feel it is not the essance of our buisness. Showing can be over rated if the commercial performance of winners do not equal their achivement in the show ring. This is why we strive to show, produce and sell high performance cattle that will work for us and other people.

However shows are a great way to benchmark your cattle against others in the breed. You may think you have a superstar at home but having that confirmed or deniened at a show helps. They are also good social occasions!

Below are a few highlights of our show season in 2009. We hope to be out and about in 2010 with a small(in numbers!) team.

National Calf Show 30th November 2009:

Romany 1 Lucy A84 F26 - Grand Female Champion and sold for £5000 to Mathew Goulding, Goulding Herefords, Eire.

We are delighted to announce that Romany 1 Emperor R22 E23 has been awarded the title of UK Poll Bull of the Year 2009. This is awarded to the bull gaining most points at a maximum of five shows over the summer. By this we mean: Throughout the UK there are twenty two shows that are designated as "point shows" by the Hereford Society and you are allowed to count a maximum of five results towards breed competitions such as Poll Bull of The Year. There must be a minimum of twenty cattle and four exhibitors forward for any result to count. Emperor has had much success throughout the UK at this year's summer shows including the Native Interbreed title at this years Royal. We are really pleased with the fact that at four out of the five point shows we attended Herefords had the biggest entry of all the beef breeds, only the Highland being the exception.

Emperor is now being used at Romany with 20 females hopefully in calf due Autumn 2010. Because we were showing him last year and he was in and out of isolation we only served one cow with him which is due this Spring. He has been DNA tested by Igenity and found to be homozygous poll.

Emperor's main show results this summer:

1st in Class, Junior Male Champion and Reserve Male Royal Highland .
1st in Class, Junior Champion and Reserve Male Royal Show.
1st in Class, Junior Champion, Reserve Male and Reserve Overall Champion Great Yorkshire.
1st in Class Scottish National Show, Kelso.
1st in Class and Reserve Male Buckingham County Show.

Other Show Results:

Highland Show:

We enjoyed a successful Highland Show in 2009 winning two classes, being third in two classes, being fourth in another. We also picked up Junior Male Champion and Reserve Overall Male. There was also another breeder (Panmure Herefords) showing a bull (Romany 1 Distiller A84 ) which we sold to them who was first and Reserve Senior Male. Romany bulls winning three out of the four male classes was a highlight of the Show for us.

Romany 1 Mink A84 - Third in Class

Romany 1 Julia R22 - Third in Class

Romany 1 Dawn A84 - Fourth in Class

Romany 1 Explosive R22 - First in Class

Romany 1 Emperor R22 E23 - First in Class, Junior Male and Reserve Overall Male.

Romany 1 Distiller A84 - First in Class and Reserve Senior Male.

Royal Show:

What a shame that was the last Royal Show, but what a way to finish!

We were really happy with our day winning Overall Junior Champion and Reserve Overall Male with Romany 1 Emperor R22 E23, but the highlight came on the Thursday when we were awarded Overall Junior Native Interbreed. This was a huge honour and made the journey even more worthwhile.

Our females were placed around the middle (they were all fifth) of their respective classes which we were quite happy with. There were a minimum of 12 in each class.

Our youngest heifer Romany 1 Mink A84 E49 didn't make it home from the show, instead she was sold to Mr Harold Hatt, Weybrook Herefords. Mr Hatt enjoyed a successful day with his heifer Weybrook Dawn 5th, who's mother is a Romany 1 Asteriod daughter and grandmother is Romany 1 Dawn 41H A31. She was awarded Reserve Junior Female.

Also forward at the show was a Romany 1 Asteriod son, Romany 1 Cosmic A51 C37 from Mr Phillip English's Churchlands herd. He was awarded third in his class.

Great Yorkshire:

On the way home from the Royal we dropped in at the Great Yorkshire show at Harrogate. We only had two cattle there - Emperor and Julia R22 E24. Emperor was again Junior Champion, Reserve Male and Reserve Overall. Also at the Show was Romnay 1 Ishbel A84 D45, sold at the Hereford Spring Show and Sale to Mr Garry Hall, Pinmore Herefords. She was second behind the female Champion in her class.
